Jane Ho
Love For Sale: What price would you pay for a trip to paradise?
By John Pallotta; Directed by Arian Blanco
At The Lion, Theatre Row Studios beginning Friday, November 4th
Cutting edge, riveting. The Hudson Reporter
Pallotta delivers a powerful heartfelt story. A must see. Empowerment Source, Inc.
In its continued mission to produce quality theatre on both sides of the Hudson River, The Hudson Exploited Theater Company (HExTC) once again crosses the Hudson to The Lion at Theatre Row Studios with the New York premiere of Jane Ho written by John Pallotta and directed by Arian Blanco.
Jane Ho is a psychologically penetrating play about the world of a prostitute. Sexy, disturbing, and emotionally moving, it explores the inner workings of the "life." What are they really like behind the mystery of their occupation? To find out, spend an evening with four ladies of the night as they "reveal" the things they tell their pillow, nobody should. This original play was selected by HExTC in 2003 where it was developed and then produced at its residency space, the Park Performing Arts Center's 32nd Street Playhouse. The strong audience response along with a generous matching gift grant from the Ford Foundation spurred HExTC to now produce this NYC premiere. "This process of nurturing, developing, and polishing new plays at our residency space in NJ and then bringing them to such a prestigious venue like Theatre Row signals an important step in legitimizing HExTC's profile as a leading producer of new works," states Artistic Director Adrian Rodriguez, Jane Ho marks an exciting time for HExTC."
This production promises to engage audiences with the innovative staging of award winning director Arian Blanco along with the talents of *Mikaela Kafka, *Daina Michelle Griffith, *Heather Male, A.B. Lugo, and Liche Ariza (*appearing courtesy of Actors Equity). In addition, an original score by Andy Cohen, set and light design by Gregg Bellon, sound design by Joe DiSanzo. Last, but not least, the "cutting edge, verbal strategies" of John Pallotta as he guides us through the provocative underworld of Jane Ho.
John Pallotta (playwright) a native of NYC, John has been involved in theatre, film, and television for over 20 years. As a playwright he has written over a dozen plays including How I Killed My Roommate and Got Away with It which ran at the Producers Club. Vegas which was read at the Lambs Theatre and the Steppenwolf in Chicago. Other plays include: Christmas on Mulberry Street, When I was Black, and Beyond the Palisades. Arian Blanco (director) received a Fringe Excellence Award in direction for the production of Dismiss all the Poets (2002) and most recently received an HOLA award for outstanding direction for the production of Dinosaurios (2004). Earlier this year he directed Repertorio Espa's hugely successful world premiere production of Marido encadenado by Rob Santana.

A full month of shows!!!
La Muse Venale Acting Troupe, its actors, directors, technicians, are proud to produce "The Whales," by resident playwright, M. Stefan Strozier. "The Whales" is a very funny comedy, which will run for 4 weeks in January, 2006, from Thursday through Sunday (beginning on January 5th), at
Where Eagles Dare Theatre
347 West 36th Street; 8th & 9th
After the shows, we will have the option for patrons to join us for wine and cheese at Where Eagles Dare rehearsal space, on the 12th floor, for a discussion of the overall philosophy of our acting troupe and anything else striking a person's fancy.
La Muse Venale Acting Troupe is co-producing "Beyond the Veil," by resident playwright John Chatterton, in February, 2006, in Where Eagles Dare Theatre. This well-developed play is a sexy spiritual drama. More information to come shortly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
John Chatterton and La Muse Venale Acting Troupe are excited to announce plans to produce a new play about sex and spiritualism, BEYOND THE VEIL, by John Chatterton. The production is scheduled for February 2006, at Chatterton's own theatre, the cozy
Where Eagles Dare Theatre
347 West 36th Street, between 8th and 9th.
Depending on casting considerations, the production may be an Equity showcase, meaning that no one will receive more than transportation costs for rehearsals or
performances, or a non-union production, in which case no one will get paid.
BEYOND THE VEIL
In addition to running a theatre and rehearsal space
(see http://www.johncpresents.com)
Chatterton produces the Midtown International Theatre Festival
(www.midtownFestival.org)
now in its seventh year, and publishes OOBR ("the off-off-Broadway review"),
now in its twelfth year. La Muse Venale is the resident theatre company at Where Eagles Dare, where it has recently presented "Guns, Shackles & Winter Coats,"
by M. Stefan Strozier and "The Knife Assassin," by Alan Kanevsky, the former as
part of the Midtown International Theatre Festival.
The purpose of the production of "Beyond the Veil" is to garner press coverage and producer interest prior to marketing the property for production at a higher
level. All parts are up for audition, as well as understudies. The producers are prepared to postpone the production if actors of sufficient caliber, suitability, and seriousness are not available. For an audition appointment, email La Muse Venale
with an electronic headshot and resume and overall rehearsal conflicts (e.g., "not in the daytime") to: worldaudience@aol.com.
Characters:
FLORENCE KING: Teenage girl. Cockney dialect a plus. Partial nudity required (an important plot point). Much of the time she can seem to have a vacant personality, or seem vaguely "off."
MRS. KING: FLORENCE's mother. Pushy and manipulative. Not above pimping her daughter. Cockney dialect a plus.
WILLIAM ROYCE: Thirties to early 50s. Intense, serious, brilliant, completely out of touch with the common man (or woman). Falls victim of a romantic streak in his character. Nudity behind translucent veils required. Can be almost maniacal in his obsession with scientific success.
VICAR: Local Anglican spiritual authority. More interested in what people say and think than in what is right. Quite interested in science. Works to debunk ROYCE. Can be quite wacky and over the top.
LORD DARNLEY: Local aristocrat and landowner; sponsor of ROYCE's experiments. Excited to be a part of something that is fashionable and to have
something interesting to do. Can be flaky in his lack of understanding of real people.
IRIS (the maid): A few lines. Can be understudy of FLORENCE or MRS. KING.
